Will my baby need to immunised before I can take him swimming?
Babies do not need to have had any immunisations to attend our lessons we advise you speak with your midwife or doctor about your babies specific needs. Information about immunisations can be found on the world health organisation website - www.who.int.
What should my baby wear in the pool?
Babies are advised to wear a double swim nappy system; The inner one is a porous swim nappy, many use disposable ones. The outer one should be a re-usable swim nappy that fits close enough to form a tight seal around the top of the thighs and the waist. A double swim nappy system is compulsory in most pools today. You can buy a swim nappy from us buy in advance at the time of booking and we will fit the nappy at the first lesson.
Can my baby swim immediately after a feed?
A full stomach is not recommended for swimming. A small milk or breastfeed maybe given up to class time. If your baby becomes hungry during class you may get out and breastfeed pool side and return. It is advisable to save larger feeds for at least one hour before swimming. Ideally bring a healthy snack for afterwards. For older babies eating solid foods, the same applies.
Is it safe to allow my baby to swim under water?
Yes. Your baby will naturally hold their breath under water but never force them or they could panic. Always allow your child to dictate the pace and scope of activity in the water.
